Giles Round, The reticence of warehouses and the opulence of banks. An interior after the Byzantine-influenced Italian Gothic manner of the Bristol Byzantine, 2023
St Bees sandstone, polished plaster, glazed tiles, terrazzo, carpet

Following research into the history of the building and the extraordinary architecture of Bristol, specifically the Bristol Byzantine, Giles Round's work references the polychromatic (multi-coloured) decoration used on the façade of the Lantern and is in part a portrait of the building itself. The work is embedded within the ground floor of the new atrium space and includes pink stone, plaster render, tiled mural, terrazzo skirting and floor surfaces.

The artwork was designed in close conversation with the architects Levitt Bernstein
